The Trip of a Lifetime

Hear about a life-changing journey across the open roads of America at the UnityPoint Health – Grinnell Regional Medical Center Senior Education Program on Monday, Nov. 12. Will Freeman, associate professor of physical education at Grinnell College, covered over 16,000 miles this past summer driving through the 48 contiguous states.

Driving the two-lane highways in his hand-made English Morgan 3-wheeler, Freeman spent 79 days visiting the people and places of the United States as research for his upcoming book. His goal was to hear people’s stories, and write about those stories and the different experiences he had on the open road.

Freeman has been at Grinnell College since 1980. Head coach of the Men’s cross country and track teams, he has led the Grinnell Pioneers to 31 Midwest Conference titles in cross country and track and field during his 38 years at the college. Freeman is a former National Chairman for Coaching Education for USA Track & Field and holds Level III certification as a coach and as a Level II and III instructor.

This program is free and open to the public. It will be held at 10 a.m. in the Drake Community Library, with refreshments beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Parking is available at the Drake Community Library, along Park Street, on Fifth Avenue, and in the First Presbyterian Church parking lot. Seniors needing transportation may call GRMC Communications and Development at 641-236-2593 by the Thursday before the program.
