Sarah Smith Announces Run for Iowa House

Grinnell, Iowa — Sarah Smith announced she will run for the Iowa House in District 76 in 2020.

House District 76 includes all of Poweshiek County and most of Iowa County. 

“I believe it’s time for a new voice for our district. One that will listen to the concerns of all people, and work to make our district a place that attracts and retains families of all ages with strong schools, good-paying jobs, and affordable and accessible healthcare.”

Sarah Smith is the Director of Outreach and Community Programs at Grinnell College, a Trustee of Unity Point – Grinnell Regional Medical Center, a board member of the Grinnell Newburg School Foundation, and former Executive Director of Imagine Grinnell. 

As Executive Director of Imagine Grinnell, Sarah secured over one million dollars in funding for the organization and projects including Natural Playscape at Summer Street Park, the Grinnell Area Recreational Trail Underpass project, the Grinnell Giving Garden, Little Bear Creek Clean Up, the Grinnell Community Garden, and the Imagine Grinnell Solar Program.

“My family has lived in this district for four generations, so I understand at a foundational level everything our district can be. As your state representative, I will preserve the values we’ve grown up with here, and work to make this an even better place to live for everyone.”

Sarah Smith and Dustin Smith have been married for 20 years. They have raised Alex (16) and Josie (13) in Grinnell.
