Performance artists will stage a barrage of 30 plays in random order in 1 hour
GRINNELL, Iowa — The New York Neo-Futurists, a diverse collection of performance artists, will present their ever-changing show, “The Infinite Wrench,” on Thursday, Feb. 1, at Grinnell College.
WHEN:
The performance will start at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 1.
WHERE:
Flanagan Studio Theatre in the Bucksbaum Center for the Arts, 1108 Park St., Grinnell.
WHAT:
“The Infinite Wrench” is a barrage of 30 two-minute original plays performed in random order – a theatrical race against an onstage clock set for one hour. Each play offers something different, be it funny, profound, elegant, disgusting, topical, irrelevant or terrifying; all are truthful and tackle the here-and-now, inspired by the lived experiences of the performers. With new plays every week, “The Infinite Wrench” is the Neo-Futurists’ ongoing attempt to shift the conventions of live performance and speak to audiences, including those unreached or unmoved by traditional theater.
In addition to performing a weekly late-night show, the Neo-Futurists have produced several award winning main-stage productions, including: “Steve: A Docu-Musical,” “The Human Symphony,” and “The Complete and Condensed Stage Directions of Eugene O’Neill: Vol. 1, Locker #4173b.” Collectively they have been nominated for three Drama Desk Awards and more than a dozen New York Innovative Theatre Awards. In 2017 “The Infinite Wrench” won the NY IT Award for Outstanding Performance Art Production.
REVIEWS:
The New York Neo-Futurists have received numerous rave reviews from publications such as:
- The New Yorker: “An entertaining forum for discussing ideas.”
- New York Magazine: “Brilliant Minimalists.”
- New York Theater Review: “Their brand of theatre is resonant, powerful and must-must-must see.”
