New Educational Workshop Series: Power Up, Financial Fitness for Women

JBeginning January 25th, S.H.E. Counts will launch a quarterly financial educational workshop series for women, titled Power Up, Financial Fitness for Women. Each session will focus on providing financial skills and management advice.

Delphina Baumann and Melissa Vine, advisory committee members of S.H.E. Counts, will lead the Power Up educational series and will include local guest speakers for the individual sessions. Jessica Dillon, owner and investment manager of Triangle Financial Services, is one of the speakers who will be featured during the first session. 

The mission of S.H.E. Counts is to support, help, and empower women and girls in Poweshiek County. Providing financial educational opportunities for women in the county is one of the specific goals of S.H.E. Counts. “Money is a hard topic to discuss openly – especially for women. We want to provide a safe space to ask questions, explore fears, and encourage action steps to fulfill dreams for the future,” states Melissa Vine.

Other goals of S.H.E. Counts include supporting annual scholarships for local graduating girls of high school, supporting an after school math program for girls in 3rdand 4thgrade, hosting a high school luncheon for future first generation girls attending college, and co-hosting the annual International Women’s Day event, scheduled for March 7th, 2019 at Hotel Grinnell. 

The first session of Power Up is scheduled for Friday, January 25th at Drake Library in Grinnell, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. and will provide an overview on “The power of planning: Face your fears and figure out a plan to be in control of your finances”. Future sessions on other financial educational topics will occur in April, September and November.

There is no charge for the session and lunch will be served to all attendees. Childcare will be provided at the library in the children’s room.
