Happy Friday! It is hard to believe that February has come to a close and we are heading into the final three months of the school year. This Monday teachers and paraprofessionals will be participating in a professional development day. Therefore there will be no school for Students on March 2, 2020!

Some of the highlights for Monday include elementary teachers participating in a Trauma Informed Care in-service that is being provided by our AEA, and a session that will be focusing on our relationship initiative with students. The afternoon sessions will be working within cohorts on reading and literacy strategies. Para professionals should check their schedule with their building administrator as there is CPI training being offered for secondary staff and CPR training for elementary paras, a technology support session, and finally an opportunity for how you can be a part of the AmeriCorp summer program.

Our Middle School staff will be participating in a Diversity Alliance student presentation offered by Grinnell College. Other highlights will focus on culture and climate, mindset and reinforcing positive behavior for students. Staff will also participate in differentiation strategies as well as have time with their Professional Learning Community to collaborate.

Board Meeting February 26:

I would like to thank our Music team for presenting information regarding our band equipment and replacement needs. Also, thank you Mr. Coffman for sharing information regarding the softball program for middle school and for presenting our fitness equipment needs primarily used by our students. The Board reviewed the maintenance schedule for the next 10-15 years for our school facilities too. Items for this summer include carpet replacement at the middle school, circle drive replacement at Fairview, sidewalks as discussed with our city, and possible the facade completion for the front of the high school. You can review all of this information on our board agenda that can be found on the website.

Above & Beyond Recipients:

Congratulations Sean Skillern & Sal Faulkner for going above and beyond for our students. Thank you both for your dedication and hard work!

Based on the famous Charles Addams cartoons in The New Yorker magazine, the Addams family lives in a mansion in Central Park not seen by most people. The inhabitants are decidedly “not normal,” and include the living, the dead, and the undecided. The play begins with an introduction to the family then continues with the story of the eighteen-year-old daughter who has fallen in love with a young man that comes from a “normal” mid-west family, and how the families interact. The action takes place in and around the Addams Mansion.

The High School & Middle School art show opened Feb 13 and will run through the closing reception on March 12 at the downtown Stewart Gallery.
