Old-time string band to perform at Grinnell College on March 8-9

Euphor will play at a Contra Dance March 8, present a workshop and concert March 9

GRINNELL, Iowa – Euphor, an old-time string band, will play at a Contra Dance on Friday, March 8, and present a workshop and concert on Saturday, March 9, at Grinnell College. All of the events are free and open to the public, and no tickets are needed.

WHAT:

Euphor is one of the most widely sought old-time string bands and Contra Dance bands in the Midwest. The band members are Tom Turino on banjo, fiddle and vocals; Matt Turino on fiddle, guitar and feet; Sam Payne on guitar; and Michael Valliant on upright bass. Euphor blends classic old-time tunes with the band’s compositions in creative, percussive and improvisational ways to compel everyone to dance.

The band will play for a Contra Dance with caller Reid Miller on Friday, March 8. In advance of the evening concert on Saturday, March 9, Euphor will conduct an Old-Time String Band Workshop during the afternoon.

WHEN:
Contra Dance at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 8. Workshop from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, March 9, followed by the concert at 7:30 p.m.

WHERE:
The Contra Dance will take place in the Grinnell Arts Center, 926 Broad St., Grinnell. The workshop will be conducted in Rooms 101, 103 and 152 of the Bucksbaum Center for the Arts, 1108 Park St., Grinnell. The concert will be held in Herrick Chapel, 1128 Park St., Grinnell.
