(Grinnell, IA – March 14, 2019) The public is invited to see Grinnell’s newest assisted living healthcare option during an open house on Sunday, April 14, between 2 and 4 PM. Visitors will be able to view several sizes of assisted living apartments as well as the new amenities located in the lower level of the Hammond Center which include a walking track and exercise equipment, an aerobics room for fitness classes, a movie theater/conference room, a game room with pool table, a craft/reading room and a quilting room. The lower level amenities will be available for use by residents and employees of the Hammond Center and St. Francis Manor as well as residents of Seeland Park’s independent living community.
The 2-story Hammond Center for Assisted Living officially opened on March 4 when the first tenant moved in and tenants will continue moving in throughout March. Several assisted living apartments are still available for individuals or couples who require assistance with one or more activities of daily living from 24-hour on-site staff in a safe and secure home-like environment. New donations totaling $50,534 have been received from the community towards the matching fundraising effort of $60,000 initiated last fall by the family of Jewel Kintzinger (1933 – 2017) to help support completion of the Hammond Center. “We are extremely grateful to our many donors who have so generously supported this project,” said Barb Baker, Chair of the St. Francis Manor Foundation. “Beginning on St. Patrick’s Day, please help us fill the “Pot of Gold” to raise the remaining amount needed to match this $60,000 pledge by May 1.”
Donations to the St. Francis Manor Foundation to help fill the “Pot of Gold” and complete the Hammond Center for Assisted Living Building Campaign can be dropped off or mailed to 2021 4thAvenue, Grinnell, IA 50112. Individuals 70 ½ or older with an IRA can avoid paying taxes on their required minimum distribution by donating directly to the St. Francis Manor Foundation through an IRA charitable rollover. Anyone interested in learning more about this giving option should contact their financial advisor or banker.
