April 4, 2014 – Grinnell, IA
OurGrinnell.com began in 2007 as an online platform for sharing news and information about the Grinnell area. Founded by former Penny Saver owner, Jack Mathews, the robust website quickly became a well-populated platform for the latest announcements. After five years of operations, the website now receives more than 3,000 unique visitors per month.
In late 2013, Mathews entered into discussions with The LiSTRA Company to organize a plan for transitioning the site to a new level of growth. “I knew the site could be more, but needed help getting it to the next level,” says Mathews. LiSTRA owner, Todd Reding, joined Mathews to organize the new Our Grinnell Media Corp. and execute a plan for growing the business. The duo engaged design firm, Opposable Thumbs to create a new brand and a new OurGrinnell.com website platform.
“We’re slowly building a new online presence to engage our local community and feature timely, professionally produced, content,” says Reding. “The new OurGrinnell.com will become the primary source for online information,” he says.
Future plans also include a new printed piece based on the Chamber’s former publication, The Hub. “The Chamber was considering dissolving The Hub and we felt there was still potential in a printed piece,” says Reding. The new publication will be titled, “The Grinnell Business Journal” and will feature information related to the business community in, and around, the Grinnell area. “We have a robust business and entrepreneurial environment in Grinnell, which is often overlooked,” says Reding.
