Summer Enrollment Begins at Arts Center




Grinnell, Iowa – The Grinnell Area Arts Council is now accepting registrations for its Arts Academy classes being offered during the Summer 2015 term where a number of courses will have enrollment caps.


For parents with toddlers and preschool-aged children, two classes are available.  Instructor Jen Collins will be offering Petite Picasso July 7 and July 9, where children will create their own masterpieces in various mediums. Jen will also be leading ST-ART (Stories + Art) which will incorporate children’s literature to inspire new artwork each day. Students will also make a collaborative class book at the end. The class will meet July 28 and July 30.  Both courses will meet from 10:00 am – 10:45 am.


Students in grades K-6 will be sure to find plenty to like in Kaleidoscope of Arts which will combine art, music, and science into one exciting program that will meet June 8 – June 12 from 9:00 am to 11:30 am. Students in this class are asked to wear clothing appropriate to paint and play in. Be sure to stop by for the performance party on June 12!


Those in grades 4 – 12 can also participate in Poetry Party, led by Victoria Collins. Every day will be spent exploring and composing a different type of poem and then creating wonderful art pieces based on the poetry! Classes meet July 6 – July 10 from 2:00 pm – 3:30pm. Victoria is also pleased to offer Artful and Awesome Appetizers, a fun, tasty class in which students will explore a different artistic medium – cooking! Basic culinary techniques will be taught in order to prepare different appetizers each day that students will then get to eat! Ingredients and materials are provided. Classes meet July 27 – July 31 from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm.


For the more musically inclined, come journey through the misty Highlands of Scotland! Rob and Nancy Clower of Turlach Ur will be offering Scottish Snare Drumming and Highland Bagpiping Camps on June 22 – June 26 and/or June 29 – July 3 from 1:00 – 2:00 pm.  Participants will be sure to enjoy learning how to play some of the oldest, loudest instruments around!  Please contact Rob at 641-990-6820 to register for one or both of these camps.


A one-day 4-H & Clover Kids Awesome Art Workshop will be held on Saturday, May 23 from 9:00 am – 11:00 am to learn all about the cool and ancient art of paper marbling.  All students are welcome to join.  Registration for this workshop will be done on-site the day of the event.


Open Studio Ceramics will be held on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 – 9:00 pm.  All are welcome, although attendees must purchase their own clay.  Glazes and equipment are provided.
