Alban Crook, GHS class of 2008, is preparing himself for all three of the 2019 US World Marathon Majors. He has already completed registration for two of them; Boston and New York. For the third one, Chicago, he is taking a different approach. He is registered as a charity runner with Team Bright Pink, promoting the awareness of breast and ovarian cancer.
Currently residing in Des Moines, Alban ran a time of 2:48:48 at the Des Moines Marathon, placing him 18th overall and 1stin his age group. Also, that time was fast enough to qualify for all three of the US World Marathon Majors. The first race is Boston, coming up on Monday, April 15th. The second race is Chicago on Sunday, October 13th, and New York is third on Sunday, November 3rd.
What makes Chicago so special? The race is held in October, during breast cancer awareness month. “My grandma had breast cancer. Every person I talk to knows a friend or family member who has battled breast or ovarian cancer.” “Every race I have done has been for me. Now, I want to run for women who battle cancer; I want to help them beat it!” After the race, Alban will also be donating 18 inches of hair to Hair We Share. Alban has a fundraising goal of $5,000 for his charity Bright Pink. He needs a minimum of $2,500 to toe the starting line on October 13th.
