Few have demonstrated the spirit of giving more than Howard McDonough, and his multiple nominations tout a hisotry of goodwill and caring that stretch from his time as a student at GHS to today.  Howard has given to his community as a service driven leader, presiding over the Grinnell-Newburg Historical Museum Board, in addition to serving on countless committees.  He has also given of his time, cooking hundreds of meals for fund-raisers and special dinners for organizations throughout the area.  Howard has supplied his talents, too: caring for buildings, creating stages and wagons for events, baking pies for countless functions and lending an experienced hand wherever needed.  Most of all, Howard has given his heart to the community and people he loves.  As one nominee stated, “Howard McDonough is an extraordinary man. He is the perfect example of what it means to be a giver!”

The 5th annual Connie Marshall Spirit of Giving Award was presented on Monday, October 13th to Howard at a reception that took place at the Ahrens Foundation Offices.  The  annual Spirit of Giving event is held each year to recognize individuals and organizations for their commitment, generosity and their volunteer leadership. The award carries with it a $1,000 contribution Greater Poweshiek Community Foundation makes to the organization of the honoree’s choice.  McDonough announced that it will be designated for Kids Against Hunger.
