Actor Tom Milligan Returns to SE*ED Program as Henry A. Wallace
Tom Milligan will present a one-act play, “American Dreamer: The Life and Times of Henry A. Wallace,” at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center Senior Education (SE*ED) Program on Monday, June 16, at the Drake Community Library, beginning at 10 a.m. This program is made possible through a grant from Humanities Iowa.
The play is based on an award-winning book of the same title by Senator John C. Culver and John Hyde. Milligan portrays Henry A. Wallace, the agricultural innovator and founder of Pioneer Hi-Bred seed corn company who later became U.S. Secretary of Agriculture under President Franklin Roosevelt. Admired by many and later branded as a socialist during his controversial 1948 campaign for the presidency, Wallace always held out a vision for the future.
Those who attended, “Grant Wood: Prairie Rebel” in 2013 at the SE*ED program will recall that Milligan is a gifted actor and highly entertaining.
Parking is available at the Drake Community Library, along Park Street, on Fifth Avenue, and in the First Presbyterian Church parking lot.
There is no cost to attend and no advance registration is needed for the SE*ED program; donations are accepted. Seniors needing transportation may call GRMC’s Office of Public Relations at 641-236-2593 the Thursday before the program.
