Dental Coalition Receiving Funding through 100 + People Who Care – Grinnell

Members of 100 + People Who Care – Grinnell voted at their April 23 meeting to support the Poweshiek County Dental Coalition’s ongoing mission to improve access to local dental care for underserved children in the area.  Since forming in 2012, the Dental Coalition has provided support to nearly 2,500 children in Poweshiek County through Free Dental Clinic Days for Kids, a voucher funding program, educational programming for preschoolers, transportation vouchers for those requiring specialized care not locally available, and school-based dental health screenings.  With an annual operating budget of $ 10,000, the boost of dollars from 100 + People Who Care will help ensure the Dental Coalition’s ongoing success.

Six new members joined at Tuesday’s 100 + People Who Care meeting, bringing current total membership to 125.  Each member pledges to donate $ 100 to the project determined by vote of the members. This means the Dental Coalition of Poweshiek County will receive a total contribution of at least $ 12,500 through the pooled philanthropy of 100 + People Who Care – Grinnell.

The April 23 meeting was the ninth voting meeting for 100 + People Who Care – Grinnell.  Since organizing in January, 2017, the philanthropy group has now generated nearly $ 82,000 in new support of worthy causes in the greater Grinnell area.  Grinnell’s chapter of 100 + People Who Care is one of more than 600 such entities across the U.S. and Canada, based on the very simple concept that many people, pooling modest donations four times per year, can significantly benefit their communities.  Project funding is determined by the members at the quarterly meetings, with the focus always on local or area charitable needs.

Membership remains open to all.  The next meeting of 100 + People Who Care – Grinnell will be Tuesday, July 23, 2019. It iwill be held in the St. Mary Church Parish Hall, starting at 5:30 p.m.  For further information about 100 + People Who Care – Grinnell, please call any of the founding board members:  Christine Day, 641-485-6180; Dennis Day, 641-485-6118; Donna Ricks, 319-269-9626; or Al Ricks, 319-269-3475.  Christine is the point of contact for receiving donations for this quarter’s project or for making a nomination at the July meeting.  Christine’s e-mail address is cday7117@gmail.com.  Donna is the point of contact for membership applications and records, and her e-mail address is djrteach@msn.com.
